Duke University to Host Virtual Veterans Day Ceremony

To honor veterans and active-duty serviceman, Duke University plans to host a virtual Veterans Day ceremony Nov. 11.

dukeAppearances will be made by Dr. Vincent E. Price, president of Duke, as well as other members of the community, according to the university.

At the end of the event, wreaths will be placed on the Memorial Wall on campus, which recognizes Duke community members who lost their lives in the military after World War II. Over 1,130 faculty and staff at Duke have served in the military. Additionally, 444 students are either active-members or veterans, Duke reported.

The ceremony will be streamed on YouTube.

“We invite the entire Duke community to join us virtually to honor the men and women at Duke and across our country who have served and protected us and the freedoms we enjoy,” said Kyle Cavanaugh, vice president for administration, in a statement. “Their willingness to sacrifice for the benefit of others exemplifies the highest values of service.”
