Coastal Carolina University Receives Boeing Grant to Support Veterans Transition Program

Coastal Carolina University has received an $80,000 grant from Boeing South Carolina to support a new “Boeing Skills to Lead – Veterans Career Transition Program” in the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration.

“We are very thankful for this grant and excited to partner with Boeing to assist the many veterans and military families in our region,” Barbara Ritter, dean of the Wall College of Business and vice president for Executive Development and Career Services, said.“This grant allows us to connect the experts in the Wall College of Business with veterans in our area to make a significant impact on their working lives.”

The veteran transition program will include a two-hour orientation and five 1.5-hour development modules and will conclude with two hours of one-on-one coaching to better prepare the veteran students, according to WBTW.

Program participants will receive information about skills that will help them succeed as a leader, practice applying the skills through case study and role play and discuss how to transfer the learned skills to the civilian workplace, the release said.

“Boeing knows that veterans make us better,” said Director of National Strategy and Engagement at Boeing Ashley Holbrook. “That’s why we partner with innovative programs such as Skills to Lead with Coastal Carolina University to help veterans and their families transition from military life to the civilian workforce.”

“The Boeing Skills to Lead – Veterans Career Transition Program will help veterans achieve better job placement and career development by helping them understand how to transfer their military skills to the civilian workforce,” said CCU director of Veterans Services Gregory Nance.

Recruitment for the new program will be through Coastal Columbia’s Office of Veterans Services.

Students who complete the program will receive a TEAL Belt in Leadership from the university’s Executive Development Program and be eligible for additional services through its Career Services Center.
