Major William Nguyen Hired as Chair, Professor of Military Science at Clarkson University

Clarkson University has appointed Major William Nguyen chair and professor of military science.

Nguyen is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. After graduating from West Point, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Air Defense Artillery Branch, according to North Country Now.

Nguyen is also a graduate of the U.S. Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and earned a master’s degree from Webster University.

Nguyen has received several honors and awards throughout his military career, such as the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement and Military Service Outstanding Volunteer Service Medals. In addition, Nguyen earned the Combat Action, Parachutist, Air Assault and the Pathfinder Badges.

Nguyen was deployed on four occasions in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom where his platoon defended the most dangerous road in Iraq, “Route Irish”. He also was an executive officer for the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division headquarters and headquarters company in Northern Baghdad. As executive officer, Nguyen trained the Iraqi Army.

In addition, Nguyen also worked with several inter- and non-governmental organizations to aid the Zhari District government in Afghanistan, establish governance and legislation.

After his last deployment in Iraq, Nguyen was a doctrine writer, a brigades operations officer for the 434th Field Artillery, an army instructor and a battalion executive officer for the 1-40th Field Artillery and a senior air defense observer controller at the Joint readiness Training Center.
