Thanks to a new partnership with Wells Fargo and Scholarship America, veterans can enroll in college courses without worrying about tuition and other fees.
The Wells Fargo Veterans Scholarship Program and Emergency Grant Program offers honorably discharged veterans and disabled veteran spouses various grants as they work toward their degree.
“Veterans have a long history of serving communities in and out of the military,” Jerry Quinn, Wells Fargo military affairs program manager told ConnectingVets.com.
Honorably discharged veterans and spouses of disabled veterans who are high school or GED graduates, are eligible to apply for the Wells Fargo Veterans Scholarship program. Applicants are required to already be enrolled at an undergraduate or graduate two or four-year college or vocational school as a full time student and can receive a maximum of $7,000 each school year.
Recipients from the scholarship program can use the award funding for any college costs such as tuition and room and board fees and can be renewed for up to three additional years or until the recipient’s degree is earned, ConnectingVets.com reported.
For veterans and spouses of disabled veterans who might have put their postsecondary education on hold for emergencies, the Veterans Emergency Grant program can give them a one-time grant of up to $1,000. Those who benefit from this grant can use the funds to put towards expenses like utility bills, medical expenses and childcare.
Eligible applicants for both scholarship programs must be Pell-eligible and have applied for Title IV and completed FAFSA, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale and are required to use any military education benefits that they are eligible for in the current academic year.
Though there is no deadline to apply for the Veterans Emergency Grant program, grants will be awarded until they run out of funds.
Wells Fargo Veteran Scholarship program applications are being accepted now until Febraury 28, 2019.
