For-Profit Schools Miss the Mark

We live in a free enterprise system that has helped make the United States a great economic power. We enjoy a standard of living that is the envy of the world. I believe in the strength of the free enterprise system as a business model. However, the model has not transferred well into the service sector and particularly education.

It is not a true free enterprise system when policymakers decide who gets how much. Markets do not drive actions. In fact, we have constant headlines about corruption and poor results from online charter schools that were advertised as choice, but instead have been hijacked as for-profit grade schools.
