Virginia State University President Speaks About Violent Traffic Stop of Alum Lt. Caron Nazario

Virginia State University (VSU) President has spoken up about the traffic stop of 2016 VSU alum Lt. Caron Nazario in Windsor, Virginia, 8 News reported.

A video showed Nazario being stopped by two officers, then having guns pulled on him, being pepper sprayed and being thrown to the ground.

“Whether he was wearing a military uniform or plain clothes, whether he was a VSU graduate or not or whether he was a member of the Army or not. That he didn’t deserve what happened to him, and we want to make sure that he is ok and that he gets the justice that he and his family want, needs and demands,” Virginia State University President Dr. Makola M. Abdullah said.

At VSU, Nazario was a ROTC cadet.

Administrative Program Specialist for ROTC Freda Thomas said she thought Nazario did everything he was supposed to do and she was disappointed with how officers treated him.

She would say to Nazario: “Keep your head up, everything is going to be okay. We love you here and we stand behind you.”
