U.S. Military Gives Louisiana State University $9.3 Million to Assist in Flood Preparations

The U.S. military has given Louisiana State University $9.3 million over the next four years to help the military prepare for flooding and rising seas, Associated Press reported.

This comes as part of a collaboration between LSU, the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s Environmental Laboratory and the University of Delaware.

Given that there are military bases and other military infrastructure in flood hazard zones, LSU will assist in improving military facility durability through computer modeling and engineering.

“LSU has been one of the few places in the world that has the experts and analytical capabilities in place to conduct coastal research that will offer critical information on how to mitigate challenges of military operations in the coastal zone,” said Robert Twilley, LSU Coastal Sustainability Studio founder and executive director and LSU Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences professor.
