The “Impact Aid Coronavirus Relief” Act, which secures education funding for tribal nations and military school-aged children throughout COVID-19, was signed into a law by President Donald Trump this month, Journal Inquirer reported.
U.S. Rep. Joseph D. Courtney (D-CT) introduced the legislation in August, which was then passed by the House in October and Senate in November.
Under the law, the U.S. Department of Education is required to use last year’s census to determine the amount of funding designated to school districts, according to Journal Inquirer.
“Given the disruption of normal school enrollment caused by COVID-19, this bill was necessary to make sure that ‘host communities’ that support military families are not penalized by the adoption of remote learning,” Courtney said in a statement.
