To create more opportunities for military students, the State University of New York (SUNY) plans to form a Veteran and Military Action Council, according to Spectrum News.
Co-chairs of the council include Dr. Robert K. Nye, president of Finger Lakes Community College, and University at Albany-SUNY President Dr. Havidán Rodríguez.
The council will address the tuition assistance gap, establish priority registration for military students and assist with the credit transfer process from service to academia at any SUNY school, Spectrum News reported.
All changes will be made by the fall of 2021.
“These heroes who have put their lives on the line for this country deserve all the assistance we can provide to make it possible to pursue a higher education and transition to their next career,” said Dr. Jim Malatras, chancellor of SUNY, in a statement. “Our new Veteran and Military Action Council includes professionals who understand the unique needs of student active service members and veterans, some of them being veterans themselves serving our country.”
