The chance for family members, of those who die in active duty, to go to college for free in New York State might not become a reality. A bill offering free tuition, room and board at SUNY and CUNY Schools was snuffed out in a state assembly committee.
The assembly higher education committee voted to put a hold on Bill A2991 this week – meaning it won’t move forward at this time. Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R,C,I-Batavia) sponsored the bill, he says he first presented it back in 2009.
