Veterans Form Rural Network to Connect Other Military Members With Essential Services

With close to one out of every 10 adults in Oklahoma having served in the armed forces, it is no surprise to find veterans in every community throughout the state. What may be surprising to those who live in near the state’s major metropolitan areas is how difficult it is for veterans in rural Oklahoma to get access to essential services.

“If you call 211 you can get ahold of places in Oklahoma City,” explained Valori Slaughter, a veteran herself, “They will give you all the giant organizations you can get ahold of united way you can get hold of, but when you’re in a rural community like Ada or say Stratford you don’t have those resources.”
