Colorado State University-Pueblo Deemed a “Purple Heart” University

The president of Colorado State University-Pueblo said being designated a Purple Heart University is an honor and testimony to Pueblo’s long-standing commitment to honoring those who have served and sacrificed for our country.

The school was officially recognized as the state’s first designated Purple Heart University in April and will celebrate that designation on Nov. 7 with a community luncheon at 11:30 a.m. in the Occhiato Student Center Ballroom on the Belmont campus.

The Purple Heart is the nation’s oldest military award, introduced as the “Badge of Military Merit” by Gen. George Washington in 1782. It is one of the most respected medals that U.S. military members can receive.
