For-Profit Berkeley College Faces Civil Charges

WHITE PLAINS – A for-profit college with a downtown city campus is facing civil charges for predatory student recruitment and financial aid practices alleged in a lawsuit filed by the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs this month.

The department accused the school of luring students — in particular low-income and first-generation college students — to enroll with promises of robust scholarship packages that instead resulted in debt with high interest rates, and of misleading students about post-graduate success.
