As an Army veteran Andrew Hughes knows a little help can go a long way.
That attitude has manifested into an organization to support veterans and their dependents at New Mexico State University Carlsbad.
“Our goal is to bring vets together,” said the 28-year-old NMSU Carlsbad student, and now president of the Student Veterans Association.
The organization started in March 2017 and held its first event — a barbecue — on Wednesday to promote the organization.
Hughes said the association currently has six members but is looking to expand membership to other veterans enrolled at the university. According to the university, there are 16 veterans and six dependents enrolled at NMSU Carlsbad this semester.
