URBANA, Ill. — The University of Illinois is making a pilot project permanent that allowed students to take courses during winter break.
A winter class session will be added to the academic calendar starting during the 2017-2018 school year. The campus Academic Senate approved the change this month. University faculty members already have offered the online classes for the last three years. The courses run during the four-week break between the fall and spring semesters.
The (Champaign) News-Gazette reported that the goal was to give students more flexibility so they could complete degree work on time. The two dozen courses offered this year drew more than 1,550 students. University figures show the school earned about $5.8 million during the pilot project.
Classes offered include economics, sociology, sciences, business and music.
