AUGUSTA, Maine — A Maine state senator says a pair of proposals she has authored will reduce the out-of-pocket cost of college and make it easier for students in the state to get their degrees.
Sen. Rebecca Millett, Cape Elizabeth Democrat, has introduced a bill that would increase the minimum grant from the Maine State Grant Program from $1,000 to $2,000 per eligible student. The proposal would apply to two- and four-year degrees as well as technical and vocational programs that award certificates.
Millett’s other proposal would create a task force to establish post-secondary degree competition goals.
She says the state’s lack of established attainment goals makes it hard for Maine to measure its success in helping people get degrees.
