SARASOTA – In 2013, as trauma nurse Randy Gilmore attempted to stabilize the brain-injured victim of an auto wreck, the patient lashed out and kicked him in the left shoulder, his favored side.
“I wasn’t in severe pain, but within an hour and a half it locked up on me, and I knew I’d suffered a significant injury,” Gilmore recalled. “I got sick to my stomach because I didn’t think I’d ever regain full use of my shoulder.”
